Adeleke Inaugurates Commission of Inquiry to Address Public Peace Disturbances in Osun

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has inaugurated a Commission of Inquiry to investigate recent disturbances of public peace across the state, as part of efforts to curb recurring violence, killings, and threats to communal harmony.

The inauguration ceremony took place at the Government House in Oke-Fia, Osogbo, where the governor charged members of the commission to carry out their assignment with courage, impartiality, and integrity. He urged them to remain fair to all parties, fear no one, and avoid favoritism in the discharge of their duties.

Represented by the Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, Governor Adeleke emphasized the need for the commission to allow evidence to guide its findings while operating strictly within the provisions of the law. He stressed that their work should be driven by the overall interest of the people of Osun State.

The governor expressed concern over the recent attacks allegedly carried out by miscreants in some parts of the state, noting that peace and security are essential foundations for development and social progress.

According to him, "the disturbances have resulted in avoidable loss of lives, destruction of property, displacement of families, and significant damage to the long-standing communal harmony enjoyed by residents of the state".

Adeleke outlined the commission’s mandate, which includes investigating both the immediate and underlying causes of the disturbances, identifying individuals, groups, or systemic failures responsible for the breakdown of law and order, and recommending practical measures to strengthen peace and security in Osun.

The commission is also expected to propose legal, administrative, social, and economic strategies to promote community cohesion, while recommending remedies for victims and pathways for reconciliation where necessary.

The governor maintained that the commission was not established as a tool for witch-hunting but rather as an instrument for uncovering the truth, delivering justice, and fostering healing among affected communities.

Responding on behalf of the commission, Chairman, Justice Adekunle Adeigbe (Rtd.) thanked the governor for the confidence reposed in the panel. He assured the public that the commission would perform its duties in line with its oath of office and called on residents to provide useful information that could assist in restoring lasting peace to Osun State.

Other members of the commission are Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, Barrister Samuel Ojo, Barr. Philips Afolayan, Hon. Olubi Adejobi, and Surveyor Sola Abioye.
