 Sunday Okunade
The Osun State Government has officially launched a Security Trust Fund aimed at addressing security challenges and sustaining the relative peace currently enjoyed across the state. The initiative, spearheaded by Governor Ademola Adeleke, was unveiled at a well-attended ceremony in Osogbo, drawing dignitaries from within and outside the state.

Speaking at the event, Governor Adeleke emphasized the importance of proactive measures in safeguarding lives and property. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to maintaining security while urging stakeholders to play active roles in supporting government efforts.

Governor Adeleke who is also the Chairman of the implementation Committee urged citizens and stakeholders to adopt a united approach in addressing insecurity, both within the state and across Nigeria, stressing that the country’s security challenges demand urgent, coordinated action that transcends political differences.

The governor commended coporate organisations and other stakeholders for their financial and moral support toward the Security Trust Fund, assuring the public that all contributions would be handled with transparency and accountability. He also acknowledged the role of traditional rulers in maintaining peace, noting their continued commitment to protecting lives and property in their communities.

Highlighting the objectives of the fund, Adeleke explained that it would strengthen security operations through the acquisition of modern tools such as drones, the creation of a situation room equipped with a toll-free emergency response line, and the recruitment of additional personnel into local security outfits, including hunters, vigilantes, and the Amotekun corps.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chairman of the Implementation Committee and Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Teslim Igbalaye, stressed that security cannot be handled by the government alone. He described the trust fund as a necessary step toward ensuring effective and sustainable security operations in the state, while commending security agencies for their dedication despite challenging conditions.

Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Barrister Samuel Ojo, explained that the fund established by law serves as a collaborative platform to mobilize resources from the private sector. According to him, it is designed to complement government spending and enhance the overall security framework.

Ojo called on stakeholders to contribute generously, noting that the funds would be used to procure modern security equipment such as vehicles, drones, motorcycles, and other logistics. He added that improving the welfare of security personnel is also a key priority, as this would help ensure a safer environment and reduce crime across the state.

The Commissioner of Police in Osun, Ibrahim Goran, reinforced the message of shared responsibility, stating that security is a collective effort involving government, community leaders, and private individuals. He urged residents to remain supportive and vigilant, emphasizing that collaboration is essential to achieving lasting peace and stability in the state.
