Osun 2026: Cooperative Society Backs Adeleke's Re-election Bid
Sunday Okunade
A prominent cooperative society in Osun State, Igbekele Oluwa Afi Olorun Multipurpose Cooperative Limited, has officially endorsed Governor Ademola Adeleke for a second term in office ahead of the 2026 governorship election. The endorsement was announced during a vibrant solidarity rally held in Ile-Ife, which drew large crowds and resembled a festive carnival.
Speaking at the event, the President of the cooperative, Chief Abubakar Buliyaminu, praised the governor’s performance, describing it as exceptional and worthy of continued support. He noted that the administration’s commitment to empowering cooperative societies across the state informed their decision to mobilize in support of Adeleke’s re-election.
Buliyaminu emphasized that the cooperative had already begun grassroots mobilization, including encouraging residents to register for their Permanent Voter Cards. He projected that the group would deliver no fewer than 20,000 votes for the governor in the August 15 gubernatorial poll.
The cooperative leader also appealed to the state government to further support its members by providing a revolving loan facility. According to him, such financial assistance would help expand businesses and improve the livelihoods of members across Osun State.
As part of the rally’s highlights, the cooperative honored Governor Adeleke with an Award of Excellence in recognition of his contributions to economic empowerment and cooperative development in the state.
In his response, Governor Adeleke expressed appreciation for the endorsement, stating that the support of the cooperative society strengthened his confidence ahead of the election. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to economic empowerment and promised to facilitate the requested revolving loan for the group.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Cooperative and Empowerment, Hon. Bayo Ogungbamgbe, commended the governor’s unprecedented support for cooperative societies. He remarked that, aside from the legacy of Obafemi Awolowo, Adeleke stands out as a leader who has invested billions of naira into cooperative funding through revolving loans.
Earlier in the day, Governor Adeleke paid a courtesy visit to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Babatunde Ogunwusi, at his palace. The governor stated that the visit was both a mark of respect and an opportunity to assess ongoing development projects across Ile-Ife.
In his remarks, the monarch commended the governor’s developmental strides, noting that projects were being evenly distributed across the state. He particularly praised ongoing works in Ile-Ife and urged contractors to expedite completion, while offering prayers for the success of the governor and his administration.
The event was attended by key political figures, including the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, among others.
