Osun Unveils Community Development Plans for LGAs
Osun State has taken a significant step toward grassroots transformation with the launch of community development plans for six local government areas, aimed at fostering structured and inclusive growth. The initiative is a collaboration between the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room and the Community Life Project (CLP).
The benefiting local governments include Boripe, Ede North, Ejigbo, Ifedayo, Ife-South, and Oriade, where the plans are expected to guide development priorities and improve service delivery at the community level.
At the launch in Osogbo, Senior Programme Manager of CLP, Francis Onshor, described the initiative as timely, stressing the growing importance of data-driven and evidence-based planning in achieving sustainable development.
He explained that the plans provide a solid framework for aligning community needs with government policies, budgets, and development strategies, ensuring that resources are directed where they are most needed.
According to Onshor, "the documents were developed through consultations with key stakeholders, including traditional rulers, community leaders, and local government officials, with data reflecting real needs in areas such as education, healthcare, water and sanitation, infrastructure, and security".
He urged ministries, agencies, and local governments to integrate the plans into their annual budgeting processes, while also encouraging community leaders to remain actively involved in tracking progress and ensuring implementation.
While speaking, Commissioner for Rural Development and Community Affairs, Aare Ganiyu Olaoluwa, commended the initiative and called on stakeholders to make effective use of the documents to address grassroots challenges.
The Commissioner who was represented by the Deputy Director, Community Affairs, in the Ministry, Alhaji Abass, assured that the state government would support the implementation process to ensure that the initiative delivers meaningful impact for residents across the targeted communities.
In their goodwill messages, Traditional ruler of Oke-Ila, Oba Adedokun Abolarin and his counterpart in Isundunrin, Oba Williams Oyesunle Alabi; Permanent Secretary of Osun State Broadcasting Cooperation, Mrs Jolaade Igbaroola and other stakeholders, called for collective responsibility, transparency, and accountability, urging all levels of government to release necessary funds promptly and work toward sustainable development in Osun State.
