Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety and welfare of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the state.
He gave the assurance during a courtesy visit by the newly deployed NYSC State Coordinator, Mr. Ekeng Ita, at the Government House in Osogbo, the State Capital.
Governor Adeleke emphasized that the security of corps members remains a top priority for his government, noting that adequate measures are in place to safeguard them throughout their service year, reassuring that the state would continue to provide a conducive environment for them to thrive.
The governor also commended the NYSC scheme for its vital role in fostering national unity and integration among Nigerian youths. He noted that the scheme has consistently contributed to national development by exposing young graduates to diverse cultures and experiences across the country.
The state helmsman urged corps members who would be involved in the electoral process during the forthcoming gubernatorial polls in Osun to carry out their responsibilities with diligence, integrity, and a strong sense of duty, stressing the importance of their role in ensuring credible and transparent elections.
In addition, the governor pledged continued support for the NYSC in Osun State, assuring that his administration would respond to the scheme’s needs as resources permit, emphasising that strengthening the NYSC would further enhance its impact on society.
Earlier in his remarks, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr. Ekeng Ita, outlined several challenges facing the scheme in the state and appealed for government intervention. He highlighted areas where support is needed to improve the welfare and effectiveness of corps members.
Mr. Ita also called for an upward review of corps members’ allowances, stressing that improved welfare packages would boost morale and productivity among participants in the scheme, saying that such measures would further encourage dedication and service.
The NYSC coordinator, however, commended Governor Adeleke for his consistent support for the scheme, expressing optimism that the existing collaboration between the state government and the NYSC would continue to grow stronger.
