Osun pays tribute to fallen heroes as Adeleke reaffirms support for Armed Forces

Osun State joined the rest of the country  to commemorate the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, with Governor Ademola Adeleke leading the state’s tribute to Nigerian soldiers who lost their lives in the line of duty. The remembrance ceremony took place at the Cenotaph located within the Osun State House of Assembly Complex in Osogbo, where the governor and other important dignitaries laid a wreath in honour of officers and men of the Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation.

Speaking at the event, Governor Adeleke described the day as a solemn national reflection on the bravery and dedication of fallen heroes whose selfless service ensured the survival and unity of Nigeria.
He noted that Nigerian soldiers have, over the years, distinguished themselves through acts of courage and professionalism, from the Nigerian Civil War to various peacekeeping operations across the globe.
According to the governor, the sacrifices of the Armed Forces remain a strong moral compass for the nation, inspiring citizens to embrace patriotism, discipline and commitment to national development. 

He emphasized that the nation owes an unrepayable debt to the fallen heroes and acknowledged the risks still faced daily by serving personnel who continue to protect lives and property under challenging conditions.

While reassuring the veterans, active service members and their families of the Osun State Government’s unwavering support, stressing that the welfare of ex-servicemen and the maintenance of peace and security are central to his administration’s agenda, the Ede born politician therefore urged Nigerians to honour the fallen heroes not only in words but through actions that promote justice, unity and lasting peace across the country.
Also speaking, the Osun State Legion Chairman, Julius Oyarekun used the occasion to present the demands of veterans to government at all levels, calling for improved welfare and greater support for ex-servicemen and their families.

Highlights of the ceremony included prayers for the heroes, family, Osun State, and Nigeria at large; firing of gun salutes and the laying of wreaths in honor of the fallen heroes.

Dignitaries at the event included members of the Osun State Executive Council, Former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Olumide Egbedun, the Chief Judge of Osun State, Justice Adepele Ojo, service chiefs, widows and relatives of fallen heroes, alongside other stakeholders too numerous to mention.
