Adeleke Hails Armed Forces as Symbols of Patriotism, Courage
Sunday Okunade
Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has paid glowing tribute to members of the Nigerian Armed Forces, describing them as enduring symbols of patriotism, courage and selfless service to the nation.
The governor gave the commendation at the official launch of the emblem for the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration, held at the Local Government Service Commission Hall, Abere.
Adeleke praised the bravery and sacrifices of military personnel who, over the years, have defended Nigeria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity across various theatres of conflict.
Reflecting on the nation’s history, the governor recalled the pivotal roles played by the armed forces from the Nigerian Civil War to peacekeeping missions and internal security operations across the country.
He noted that despite daunting challenges, the commitment and resilience of the military in safeguarding the nation have remained unwavering and commendable.
Speaking on the 2026 theme, “United for Peace, Security, and National Unity,” Adeleke said it underscores the urgent need for collective action in building a peaceful and secure Nigeria.
The governor stressed that national unity remains critical to ensuring that citizens live without fear and that communities can thrive regardless of ethnic or religious differences.
He urged Nigerians to draw inspiration from the courage and resilience of serving personnel and veterans, while also emphasising the need to recognise and support ex-servicemen who have served the nation with distinction.
Earlier, the Osun State Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Comrade Julius Oyarekun, appealed to the state government to increase its donations to improve the welfare of families of fallen heroes and veterans bearing the scars of war, as the Armed Forces Remembrance Day continues to serve as a platform to honour their sacrifices.
