Osun Govt Inaugurates 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day Planning Committee

The Osun State Government has officially inaugurated the Planning Committee for the 2026 Armed Forces Celebrations and Remembrance Day, marking the commencement of preparations for a befitting programme to honour Nigeria’s military heroes.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Secretary to the state government Bobagunwa Teslim Igbalaye described the 2026 celebration, themed “Valour, Sacrifice and Unity: Honouring Our Heroes,” as a reflection of the patriotism, selflessness and national cohesion exemplified by officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
The Bobagunwa Teslim Igbalaye represented by permanent secretary Bureau of Cabinet Special Services and the office of SSG Mr. Olusoji Wojuade stated that government paid glowing tribute to the uncommon courage, gallantry and unwavering dedication of the Armed Forces, noting their continued sacrifices in protecting Nigerian lives and defending the nation’s territorial integrity against insurgency and other security threats.
Their commitment to duty, often at great personal cost, was described as a source of pride and inspiration to the nation.
According to the Bobagunwa Igbalaye, the inauguration of the committee signals the beginning of coordinated efforts in Osun State to carefully plan and execute a meaningful celebration in honour of serving, retired and fallen military personnel who have rendered selfless service to the fatherland.
The programme of events for the 2026 Armed Forces Celebrations was also unveiled.
Activities include the launching of the Armed Forces Emblem on a date to be announced by the Governor; a Jum'ah Service scheduled for Friday, January 9, 2026, at the Osogbo Central Mosque, Oja-Oba, Osogbo, by 1:00 p.m. and a Church Service slated for Sunday, January 11, 2026, with the venue and time to be announced later.
The Grand Finale will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at the Military Cenotaph, in front of the Osun State House of Assembly Complex, Osogbo.
The government assured members of the various sub-committees to be constituted of full support, urging them to work harmoniously with unity of purpose, diligence and mutual understanding to ensure the successful planning and execution of the programme.
It further reaffirmed the state’s readiness to provide all necessary support and cooperation to guarantee the success of the celebrations, expressing confidence that the 2026 Armed Forces Celebrations and Remembrance Day would be memorable and impactful.
