The Osun State House of Assembly has adopted the report of its Committee on Finance and Appropriation on the 2026 budget.
Presenting the report, the chairman House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Hon. Olumide Fatunmise, stated that the 2026 budget comparison with the previous year(s) was informed by the need to complete ongoing projects and drive economic transformation across the state.
Hon. Fatunmise disclosed that all standing committees of the House served as sub-committees during the budget defence exercise, with no fewer than 90 ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) appearing before the Assembly.
Among its key observations, the committee noted that the projected Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for 2026 is realistic and feasible, adding that capital receipts, including grants and aids, were proposed to complement the overall budget size.
The committee also identified agriculture as a sector with strong revenue-generating potential if adequately supported.
In its recommendations, the committee called for improved IGR performance through enhanced tax awareness and the pursuit of revenue-generating measures, including digitisation.
It also urged the identification of bulk revenue-generating agencies, stronger synergy between MDAs and the Osun State Internal Revenue Service (OIRS), re-appraisal of existing revenue sources, and a review of all Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs).
Other recommendations include the revitalisation of parks and gardens across the state and ensuring that revenue collection is not left solely to field officers.
Contributing to the debate, lawmakers from Obokun(Hon.Adeyemi Adewumi) and Ife Central(Hon. Jeremiah Awoyeye) constituencies commended the committee for incorporating recommendations made by members during the budget defence sessions of MDAs.
The motion for the adoption of the committee’s report was subsequently moved by the Deputy Majority Leader and seconded by the lawmaker from Ife Central Constituency, Hon. Jeremiah Awoyeye.
Following the adoption, the House dissolved into the Committee of Supply for further consideration of the report.
All amendments and corrections were adopted during the progress report presented by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun.
