The Osun State House of Assembly has concluded the 2026 budget defence exercise for Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government as it expressed strong indications that the proposed budget size is achievable and aligns  with the needs of residents across the state.

Speaking shortly after the final "Budget-Talk Session", the Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Hon. Olumide Fatunmise, expressed confidence in the feasibility of the budget, noting that the submissions from various MDAs showed clear pathways to improve revenue performance.

According to him, the Assembly is optimistic about the state’s capacity to implement the budget, as efforts will be intensified to attract more grants and aids in the coming year.

Hon. Fatunmise added that the state government has already blocked between 70 to 75 percent of previously existing loopholes in expenditure, a move which he described as crucial to maximising available resources.

Fatunmise stressed that the priorities captured in the budget reflect the yearnings of Osun residents as key sectors such as education, agriculture, infrastructure, and health are given utmost attention.

He further reaffirmed that the House will not relent in performing its oversight functions, emphasising that ,every fund released must be judiciously utilised for its designated purpose...

“Our oversight continues even after the budget is passed. We are committed to ensuring that every allocation translates into real impact for the people,” he said.

With the defence exercise now concluded, the Assembly is set to harmonise all inputs and observations from the MDAs as lawmakers move towards the final passage of the 2026 Appropriation Bill.
