Governor Adeleke Reiterates Commitment to Education Development, Lauds School Principals

The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has reaffirmed its commitment to prioritising education as a cornerstone of its development agenda, assuring stakeholders of sustained support to strengthen the sector. 

Governor Ademola Adeleke gave the assurance during a courtesy visit by the leadership and executive members of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Osun State Chapter, led by its Chairperson, Mrs Esther Awoyemi which was held at the government house, Oke-fia, Osogbo.

He noted that the government is working assiduously to restore stability, dignity and confidence in the education sector, advancing that it has remained a central focus of the current administration. He added that, from the outset, deliberate policies have been implemented to address teacher welfare, school management and learning outcomes, with the aim of repositioning education for better performance across the state.

Governor Adeleke highlighted the prompt payment of salaries, allowances and retirement benefits as a key strategy for motivating teachers and school administrators. He further disclosed ongoing efforts to improve the learning environment through enhanced infrastructure, better security and effective school supervision, stressing that a conducive atmosphere is essential for quality teaching and learning.

According to the Governor, the positive impact of these interventions is already evident, as Osun State has recorded impressive performances in national examinations compared to many other states, emphasising that these laudable achievements were attributed to the dedication of teachers and principals, as well as the consistency of government support to the education sector.

The state helmsman however, commended ANCOPSS for its professionalism, discipline and commitment to excellence, describing the association as a critical partner in the drive to deliver quality education to every child in Osun State. He assured the visiting principals that their requests had been carefully noted and would be addressed progressively as resources permit, while pledging continued collaboration to further strengthen the state’s education system.

Speaking earlier, the Commissioner for Education in Osun State, Hon. Dipo Eluwole, commended Governor Ademola Adeleke for what he described as giant strides in the education sector through sustained reforms, noting that the state’s performance has continued to improve steadily. He said Osun has become a reference point among its peers nationwide, citing a recent WAEC ranking that placed the state among the three best-performing states in the country, as well as its impressive showing in several national academic competitions where it emerged top.

Also speaking, the Osun State President of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Mrs Esther Awoyemi, praised the governor for the prompt payment of salaries and for creating opportunities that have enabled principals to attain the peak of their careers. She, however, presented a list of requests to the governor, including the renovation of more schools across the state, the provision of operational vehicles and the allocation of land for the construction of a permanent secretariat.

Mrs Awoyemi, on behalf of ANCOPSS members, pledged the association’s support for Governor Adeleke’s second-term ambition ahead of the 2026 governorship election, assuring him of their continued cooperation in advancing quality education in Osun State.
