PDP urges Chief Judge to reassign party cases away from three Abuja Judges

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised concerns over the pattern of assigning its legal matters at the Federal High Court, Abuja Division, calling on the Chief Judge to prevent three specific judges from handling future cases involving the party.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Terhemba Tsoho, the PDP, through its National Secretary, Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja, questioned why cases filed by or against the party are repeatedly sent to Justices James Omotosho, Peter Odo Lifu, and Abdulmalik.

The party noted that despite the Abuja Division having 12 judges, only the three mentioned have consistently presided over PDP-related matters in recent years. This, it said, has triggered widespread complaints from party members.

According to the PDP, these courts have become “courts of particular concern” due to the sensitivity of matters affecting the party’s interests. It stressed that beyond delivering justice, the judiciary must also uphold public perception of fairness.

The statement further highlighted that several PDP members have expressed strong dissatisfaction to newly elected members of both the National Working Committee and the National Executive Committee, lamenting the recurrent assignment of their party’s cases to the same judges.

Given the political atmosphere and the likelihood of more legal disputes, the PDP appealed that no future cases involving the party be assigned to the three judges in question.

The letter, however, affirmed the party’s confidence in the integrity of the judiciary and commended the Federal High Court under Justice Tsoho for its reputation of fairness and balanced adjudication.
