The Osun State House of Assembly has commenced earnest deliberation on the 2026 Appropriation Bill presented by the Executive Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke.

Recall that Governor Adeleke, on Wednesday, 12th November 2025, laid before the Assembly a proposed budget of over ₦705 billion for the 2026 fiscal year at the hallowed chamber of the Assembly complex, making him the second governor in the country to present next year’s budget.

Leading the policy thrust, the Majority Leader, Hon. Babajide Adewunmi, made a strong case for accelerated passage of the Bill emphasizing that the proposed budget size is aimed at completing all ongoing projects while initiating new ones in necessary areas.

Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Hon. Olumide Fatunmise, expressed confidence in the governor’s financial stewardship, noting that previous budgets under the current administration have been successfully implemented.

Other lawmakers, including Hon. Kanmi Ajibola, Hon. Abiola Awoyeye, Hon. Adekunle Oladimeji, Hon. Afeez Abiodun, and Hon. Adewumi Adeyemi, also voiced their support, referencing the visible impact of the governor’s projects in their various constituencies as justification for trusting the effectiveness of the proposed 2026 budget.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, aligned with the contributions of his colleagues and subsequently committed the Bill to the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation and the House Committee on Rules and Business for further legislative work.

The committees are mandated to draw up a timetable for the appearance of Ministries, Departments and Agencies, as well as relevant institutions, to defend their 2026 draft budgets which shall span, from 24th November to 4th December.

With the  deliberations during the plenary, the Bill has successfully passed its second reading.
