In a significant move to strengthen data accuracy and efficiency in the state's health sector, the Osun State Government has distributed laptops to all Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Officers and Local Government Cold Chain Officers (LCCOs) across the 30 Local Government Areas of the state. The initiative follows the state's victory in the 2024 PHC Leadership Challenge Award for the South-Western region.

The commissioning and distribution of drugs and laptops took place at the Osun State Primary Health Care Development Board in Osogbo as part of the implementation of the workplan approved by UNICEF for the $500,000 award won by the state.

Speaking on behalf of Governor Ademola Adeleke, the Commissioner for Health, Barrister Jola Akintola, noted that the intervention aims to enhance accurate data collection and drive digital transformation in primary healthcare management.
According to him, "It will be recalled that Osun State won the $500,000 PHC Leadership Challenge Award as the South-West Champion of the Primary Health Care Challenge Initiative, although the funds were not disbursed directly, they were implemented through an approved workplan, which has now resulted in the provision of these laptops to health workers and essential drugs and dressings to PHCs in the 30 LGAs for quality service delivery to the good people of Osun State."

Barr. Akintola emphasized the importance of proper data management, urging beneficiaries to use the laptops responsibly and maintain them as government property. "We need accurate data because everyone is moving from analogue to digital systems. To whom much is given, much is expected," he stated.

The Commissioner further disclosed that Osun currently ranks fourth nationally in the PHC Leadership Challenge and expressed optimism that with continued dedication, the state would emerge as the overall national winner.
He appreciated Governor Adeleke for his unwavering support and commended development partners, including UNICEF, Dangote Foundation, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), for their collaboration.

In his welcome address, the Executive Secretary of the Osun State Primary Health Care Development Board, Dr. Oluwole Fabiyi expressed gratitude to the forum of Nigerian Governors for the great initiative and applauded the commitment of healthcare workers in the state. He encouraged them to sustain their efforts to advance primary healthcare delivery in Osun.
Also delivering goodwill messages were the Board Chairman, Alhaji Tajudeen Adisa; UNICEF representative, Mr. Solomon Israel; NPHCDA's Dr. Tope Shadare; and WHO representative, Dr. Toyin Ojerinde. They collectively urged beneficiaries to handle the laptops as official tools for improved performance and accountability.

In her closing remarks, the Director of Medical Services & Disease Control, who doubles as the State Focal Person for PHC LCI, Dr. Oluyemi Ogundun urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the tools and ensure they are well maintained for continuity and sustainability.
Representatives of the LGA CCOs and M&E Officers also expressed their profound appreciation to the state government and partners, reaffirming their commitment to improved data collection and service delivery, promising to use the tools effectively to achieve better health outcomes across Osun State.
