Governor Adeleke affirms commitment to wage war against drug abuse among youth

Osun state Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has re-affirmed commitment to provide the needed support to wage total war against drug abuse in the State to secure the future of the youth. 

Governor Adeleke disclosed this during a courtesy visit paid by the Osun Ministry of Federal matters led by its commissioner, Mrs Adenike Adeleke alongside NDLEA officials.

Speaking, Governor Adeleke decried the incessant rate at which youths indulge in drug abuse in spite of its many negative effects on their well beings.
 The Osun helmsman, however, expressed happiness that the recently launched  "Imole War Against Drug Abuse (IWADA) by his administration through the Ministry of Federal Matters  has started  transforming many young lives in the State, maintaining that, drug abuse is a great threat to the minds and health of young people, their families and dreams.

He similarly applauded the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for the good collaboration with the Ministry of Federal Matters in tackling the menace of illicit drugs. 

Towards achieving a total victory over the menace of illicit drugs and its attendant negative effects, Senator Adeleke called on all stakeholder at the local, state and national levels to redouble their efforts to collectively make Osun a drug abuse free State.

Earlier in her address, Commissioner for Ministry of Federal Matters, Hon. Adenike Adeleke appreciated Governor Adeleke's moral and  financial  supports which gave birth to "Imole Osun War Against Drug Abuse" (IWADA) aimed at ensuring zero tolerance for drug abuse in the state.

The Commissioner disclosed to the Governor that, the train of IWADA sensitization programme has reached out to over 6,000 students who were hitherto mostly the victims of drug abuse across the nine federal constituencies of Osun.
As a step towards achieving the needed support and result, Mrs Adeleke also told the Governor that the Ministry of Federal Matters under her watch has renovated the dilapidated NDLEA's Rehabilitation Centre for proper care of victims of drug abuse in addition to increasing the number of beds in the Centre from four to twelve.
 
Also speaking, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Media for the Ministry of Federal Matters, Hon. Godwin Adedayo, who also acknowledged and applauded the Governor's support for all initiatives geared towards bettering the lot of  society, during the courtesy call, led the attendees to sing the Imole Osun War against drug abuse campaign slogan/music which, according to him is being aired across all the radio stations throughout  Osun state.
The Regional Zonal Commander of NDLEA for Osun and Oyo states , Commander Tunde Omotosho used the avenue to also  appreciate Governor Adeleke's approval of the initiative which he said falls in line with the agency's mandate.
In attendance at the courtesy call were Secretary to Osun State Government, Alhaji Teslim Igbalaye, Chief of staff to the Governor, Alhaji kazeem Akinleye, Head of Service, Mr Ayanleye Aina, Commissioner for Education, Hon. Dipo Eluwole among other dignitaries too numerous to mention.
