Adeleke orders Police clampdown as he warns against escalating political violence in Osun

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has issued a strong warning against the rising wave of political violence in parts of the state, directing the Commissioner of Police to immediately clamp down on political killings, especially across Ijeshaland.

The governor’s directive came as the Osun State Security Council convened once again to review and strengthen service-wide security measures aimed at protecting lives and property from both internal and external threats. The meeting, attended by all service commanders, was presided over by Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi.

Prince Adewusi conveyed Governor Adeleke’s appreciation to the security chiefs, expressing confidence that ongoing security initiatives will further enhance the safety and stability of the state. He also appealed to residents to actively support security agencies by reporting suspicious activities within their communities.

Governor Adeleke, deeply concerned about recent killings in Ilesa, called on the political class to uphold democratic values and avoid acts capable of endangering peace. He condemned the use of thuggery and violence, warning that no ambition should be worth the shedding of blood.

“If truly our goal is to serve the people, we must focus on the ballot and free exercise of electoral choices by our people. I urge the Commissioner of Police to secure the affected areas and stop further killings,” the governor stated.

In a related development, the state government has finalized plans to establish mobile courts comprising eight magistrates, in a joint initiative between the executive and judiciary. The mobile courts will address overnight criminal cases, handle remand proceedings, and help decongest detention facilities.

The move followed a request by the Governor’s legal adviser, Nurudeen Kareem Esq., to the Chief Judge, highlighting the urgent need to tackle overcrowding in detention centres while safeguarding human rights amid the ongoing judicial workers’ strike.

With the Chief Judge already acting on the request, Osun State is set to commence mobile court operations in the shortest possible time.
