Osun HMB refutes allegations of decay under Adeleke's administration

The Management of the Osun State Hospitals Management Board has debunked reports alleging that hospitals in the state are in a state of decay under the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke, describing such claims as misleading and contrary to the reality on ground.

Reacting to a press statement circulated by an online platform, Osogbo Updates, the Board stated that the State Specialist Hospital, Asubiaro, Osogbo—one of the flagship secondary health facilities in the state—remains fully functional, well-staffed, and committed to providing quality healthcare to residents.

According to the statement, the hospital currently records an average of over 10,000 patients monthly, reflecting the public’s continued confidence in the facility’s services. “At the hospital, being a secondary health facility, there are specialists across all health care cadres whose services are available 24 hours daily,” the management said.

Addressing concerns about power supply, the Board explained that the hospital, like most institutions across the country, has been affected by the epileptic electricity situation. “In recent times, there has been irregular power supply in many parts of the country, and Osogbo town is not an exception. On average, power supply to the State Specialist Hospital, Asubiaro, when available, is less than three hours daily,” the statement read.

The management further clarified that it is unethical for specialists in the hospital to refer patients to private hospitals, stressing that referrals are only made to tertiary institutions where necessary. “Such practice is not allowed under the hospital’s policy,” it emphasized.

The Board also dismissed insinuations that the hospital premises were poorly maintained, noting that the state government releases monthly imprests for cleaning, fumigation, and general maintenance, which are judiciously utilized to sustain a safe and hygienic environment.

Reassuring the public of the government’s commitment to health sector development, the statement urged members of the public seeking further clarification to contact the Permanent Secretary, Hospitals Management Board, on 08033285140; the Director of Medical Services, on 08033909750; or the Chief Consultant in charge, on 07061646719.

“The Governor Ademola Adeleke administration remains resolute in its determination to revamp the health sector and ensure accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare for all Osun residents,” the Board concluded.
