OSSG champions hand hygiene as RUWESA marks global handwashing day 2025

The Osun State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting healthy hygiene practices .
This affirmation came to the fore as the Rural Water and Environmental Sanitation Agency (RUWESA) joined the global community to celebrate the 2025 Global Handwriting Day, with the theme“Be a Handwashing Hero!”
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Sunday Oroniyi, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Water and Sanitation, Hon. Olanrewaju Odelade, emphasized the importance of proper handwashing in preventing diseases and improving public health.
They noted that the initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on health and access to clean water.
The General Manager of RUWESA, Mrs .Ibidun Odelola encouraged residents to become “Handwashing Heroes” by practicing proper hand hygiene at critical times to reduce the spread of communicable diseases.
As part of the celebration, RUWESA facilitated awareness campaigns and practical demonstrations of effective handwashing techniques in selected schools and markets, including Fakunle Comprehensive High School, Osogbo; Beloved Life Walk School, Owode; and Ota-Efun Market. The Babaloja, community leaders, and students actively participated in the outreach.
Students from the School of Health Technology and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members also joined the campaign, delivering brief health talks on environmental sanitation and hygiene practices.
