Adeleke reaffirms commitment to Osun devt, vows completion of Ile-Ife Flyover, other key projects

 Sunday Okunade

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has defended his administration’s massive infrastructural drive across the state,  stressing that modern infrastructure remains a catalyst for economic growth and development.

Speaking during an inspection of the ongoing Lagere Flyover and other projects in the ancient city of Ile Ife, the governor said as the cultural capital of the Yoruba people, the ancient town deserves world-class infrastructure after years of neglect and abandonment by the past administrations.

The governor who was warmly received by leaders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ife, led by Prof. Wale Oladipo, before paying a courtesy visit to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, accused the opposition of deliberately blocking Osun’s local government allocations to frustrate the completion of critical projects.
He vowed that his administration would not be deterred, pledging to deliver all ongoing infrastructure projects aimed at transforming Ile-Ife and other parts of the state into vibrant economic and tourism hubs. He emphasised that his government is committed to ending the era of abandoned projects and misappropriation of  funds.

According to him, "the ongoing projects in Ile-Ife, Ilesa, Osogbo, Ede, Ila-Orangun, and Iwo are evidence of this administration’s resolve to ensure that Osun’s resources serve its people".

Adeleke further noted that the Ile-Ife flyover, alongside the dualisation project, is nearing completion despite skepticism from critics. He described the flyover as strategically located at the economic heart of Osun East, connecting Osun West, Ijesaland, and Ondo State through Garage Olode, a move he said will stimulate regional trade and development.
Highlighting the cultural and tourism potentials of Ile-Ife, Adeleke stated that the city occupies a prime position in his administration’s creative economic agenda. He explained that the infrastructural renewal in the cradle of Yoruba civilization would attract multibillion-naira tourism investments and position Osun as the tourism capital of the South West.
Listing completed and ongoing road projects, the governor mentioned several rehabilitated routes across Ile-Ife, Modakeke, Ifetedo, Akinlalu, and Edunabon, including Iredunmi–Oke Ijan Road, Manchester–Igboya Road, and the Magistrate Court–Itamerin Road, among others. He assured residents that other major projects such as the Ilesa and Iwo township dualisations, Iwo-Osogbo road, and Lameco flyover would be completed despite attempts to withhold nearly ₦100 billion of state funds.

While urging contractors and officials to expedite work, Adeleke warned that his government would not tolerate any laxity or non-performance. He directed the Ministry of Works to intensify project monitoring and ensure regular public updates.
