Osun Govt Harps on Pollution free Environment
...as Hon. Mayowa Adejoorin visits Prism Steel Mill Ltd, Ikirun to ascertain level of Environmental Compliance

The Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation, Osun State, Hon. Mayowa Adejoorin, has harped on the need for a clean and safer environment devoid of any hazard that is likely to put the lives of people at risk.
Hon.Adejoorin made this known when he led an inspection visit to Prism Steel Mill Ltd in Ikirun,the headquarters of Ifelodun Local Government to evaluate the company’s level of adherence to environmental regulations .
The Commissioner emphasized the state’s vision for a cleaner and greener environment, underscoring the importance of industries like Prism Steel Ltd in achieving this goal.
He commended the company for its operational efforts just as he called for stricter compliance with environmental standards to protect the health of the host community and the ecosystem.
He scored high the Management of the company for maintaining a pollution free environment.
“As a government, we are committed to fostering industrial growth, but it must not come at the expense of our environment or the well-being of our people,” he stated.
The Commissioner also called for stronger partnerships between the company and his Ministry to ensure sustainable practices that align with the state’s environmental policies.
Accompanied by key officials of the Ministry led by its Permanent Secretary, Mr. Oyegbami Richard, and the Director of Environmental Health and Sanitation, Mr. Amos Akala, the Commissioner highlighted government’s commitment to balancing industrial development with environmental responsibility.
In his remarks,Mr. Oyegbami Richard commended Prism Steel Mill Ltd for its revenue-generating activities while also noting their significant contributions to the state’s growth.
He similarly urged the company to intensify its efforts in revenue generation drive and environmental responsibility.
“Your commitment is commendable, but we encourage you to do more, as it greatly aids development for our stste,” he stated.
The Permanent Secretary also reminded the company’s General Manager, Mr. Ravi Garg, of the pledge to plant trees, urging immediate action to fulfill this promise.
Also in his remarks,Director of Environmental Health and Sanitation, Mr Amos Akala , emphasized on the importance of workplace safety and environmental protection. He advised Prism Steel Mill Ltd Ikirun,to ensure the use of safety equipment, such as protective goggles and helmets, and to ensure effective measures to trap carbon monoxide emissions, which pose significant risks to the host community.
“You must prioritize the well-being of the community by mitigating harmful emissions,” he said.
While appreciating the visit, Mr. Ravi Garg, who spoke on behalf of the management of the company, assured the delegation of the willingness of the management and staff to comply with all the directives and,accordingly contribute to Osun state’s development goals.
