Breaking: INEC Announces Dates for 2026 Ekiti and Osun Governorship Elections


The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the official dates for the 2026 governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun States. The Ekiti State election is scheduled for Saturday, July 20, 2026, while voters in Osun State will head to the polls on Saturday, August 8, 2026.

INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, revealed the dates on Friday during the swearing-in ceremony of six newly appointed Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs), recently confirmed by the National Assembly.

Professor Yakubu also stated that the Commission is nearing completion of preparations for upcoming bye-elections to fill vacant seats in both the National and State Houses of Assembly.

The protest, which took place at the IBEDC office in Ipetumodu and the Control Room in Moro, was led by the President of GIYM, Comrade Babalola Taiwo, popularly known as Bablo.  During the demonstration, Com.
