Ilobu/Ifon/Erin-Osun Crises: Response team on emergency works to secure better camps for displaced persons
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Emergency Management, Hon. Emiola Fakeye, has led the Emergency Response Team to Ifon Osun, Ilobu, and Erin-Osun to assess the camps suggested by the traditional rulers of the three communities.
The emergency response team included representatives from the Department of State Services (DSS), health practitioners from the Ministry of Health, the Osun State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Osun Health Insurance Scheme, the Red Cross Society, the Hospitals Management Board, Osun State Emergency Management Agency (OSEMA), the Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) of each community and other stakeholders.
It will be recalled that Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke had directed the immediate establishment of three holding camps for displaced persons from Ifon Osun, Ilobu, and Erin-Osun with each of the communitirs tasked with selecting a suitable location, such as town halls or any other appropriate venue.
Hon. Emiola urged the traditional rulers to release a temporary location to shelter the displaced residents who are currently homeless. She emphasized that Governor Adeleke prioritizes the safety and well-being of his people and is committed to preventing undue hardship.
Responding, the traditional rulers acknowledged the immediate gesture by the government to get the displaced persons temporarily accommodated.
While the proposed sites were acceptable to the government team, it was similarly discovered that they require essential repairs and amenities, including borehole water supply, toilets, and mosquito nets.
Government assured the communities that urgent measures would be taken to enhance security and ensure the camps' suitability.
In the same vein, the General Manager of Osun State Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Abiola Oni, stated the essence of securing a good camp for the displaced residents in the three communities for the state government to be able to take adequate care of their shelter, health, feeding, and security.
The communities at the end of the visit expressed gratitude to Governor Ademola Adeleke for his commitment to their safety and welfare. They prayed for continued success of Senator Adeleke's administration.
