Rainstorm wreaks havoc in Ijebu-Jesa, Iwoye-Ijesa
A devastating windstorm struck Ijebu-Jesa and Iwoye-Ijesa in Oriade Local Government on March 11, 2025, leaving many homes destroyed and causing damage worth several millions naira.
The Elegboro of Ijebu-Jesa, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Engr.) Moses Olufemi Agunsoye II, expressed deep concern over the disaster and appealed to Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to urgently assist the victims affected by the storm.
The monarch made this appeal during an on-the-spot assessment visit by the team of Osun State Emergency Management Agency (OSEMA), led by the Director of Operations, Mrs. Omolara Isola.
Oba Agunsoye revealed that the incident occurred around 5 o'clock on March 11, 2025, and within 30 minutes, numerous houses in Odo Ese, Odo Owa, Odogo, and Iwoye-Ijesa were severely affected. Electricity poles were also destroyed but no life was lost in the incident. Also, many of the affected homeowners are elderly individuals who lack the means to renovate their damaged houses.
He urged NEMA and the state government to provide urgent assistance to those affected by the disaster. He also commended OSEMA for their swift response, stating that as soon as he contacted the agency, they assured him they would visit the affected areas for assessment.
In her response, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Emergency Management, Hon. Emiola Fakeye, represented by Mrs. Omolara Isola, sympathized with the residents of Ijebu-Jesa and Iwoye-Ijesa over the unfortunate incident. She assured them that necessary steps would be taken to address their plight and prayed that such a disaster would not occur again.
Mrs. Isola further advised the affected residents to formally submit their requests for assistance to OSEMA.
