NEMA, OSEMA commiserates with Erinmo-Ijesa over rainstorm damage

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in collaboration with the Osun State Emergency Management Agency (OSEMA), has sympathized with the Elerinmo of Erinmo-Ijesa, Oba Dr. Michael Odunayo Ajayi, Arowotawaya II, and the residents of Erinmo-Ijesa following the devastating rainstorm that struck on February 8, 2025.
The storm, accompanied by heavy winds, caused extensive damage to numerous properties, including the palace car park, guest house, Churches ,shops, and other business premises.
Leading the delegation, the assistant Zonal Coordinator of NEMA, Mr. Olarewaju Kazeem, visited the palace and the affected areas to conduct a verification and assessment exercise to determine the extent of the damage.
He said, "We received a distress call regarding the unfortunate rainstorm. Given the impact of climate change, such occurrences are not surprising. On behalf of the Director General of NEMA ,the Special Adviser to the Governor on Emergency Management, Hon Emiola Fakeye and the General Manager of OSEMA, we extend our heartfelt sympathy to the victims. Our agencies are here to assess the damage and prepare reports to facilitate necessary relief assistance for those affected."
Speaking on behalf of OSEMA, the Director of Operations, Mrs. Isola Omolara, advised the affected victims to submit photographic evidence of the damage along with written requests for assistance, which should be forwarded to OSEMA for necessary action.
In response, His Royal Majesty, the Elerinmo of Erinmo-Ijesa, Oba Dr. Michael Odunayo Ajayi expressed deep appreciation to both NEMA and OSEMA for their swift response.
He commended their efforts in physically visiting the affected areas and assessing the damage firsthand, describing their intervention as commendable.
The monarch therefore emphasized that the residents of Erinmo-Ijesa remain hopeful for the much-needed relief and support from the relevant authorities to aid their recovery from the disaster.
