In preparation for the emerging local government autonomy in the third tier of government in the country, Osun State Local Government Service Commission, (LGSC) is leaving no stone unturned in equipping her staff to be able to grapple with accompanying autonomy responsibilities.
Recently, the Commission organized a two-day workshop for Directors of Administration and General Services, Directors of Finance and Accounts, Directors of Procurement as well as Internal Auditors in all local government areas of the State.
It would be recalled that the Commission had earlier conducted a similar workshop for all Heads of Local Government Administration (HLAs) in the State.
In his opening remarks at the workshop, which was handled by by the Auditor-General for Local Government in the State, Mr.Isiaq Awotunde, along with the General Manager for Public Procurement Agency in Osun, Engineer Babatunde Oyetola, the Chairman of Osun Local Government Service Commission, Hon. Tunji Adeleke (jnr) asserted that because the participating cadres are key to the new local government reform, they need to be conversant with the rudiments of their jobs.
While appreciating the State Governor Ademola Adeleke for providing enabling environment for training and retraining of staff, Hon. Tunji Adeleke promised that there would be further trainings for staff development.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary in the Commission, Mrs Modupe Irelewuyi said that the workshop was strategically organized to equip the key officers with requisite knowledge to navigate the new dispensation in local government administration.
She then admonished the officers to get abreast of what to do at all times so that they would not be found wanting in times of dire need for direction.
The workshop reflected on existing rules and regulations governing local government operations, as well as the nitty gritty of public procurement.
The programme was also graced by the two Commissioners in the LGSC , Hon. Jimoh Adetoro and Hon.Adesina Alaran, including the management team of the Commission.
