TB Eradication: Osun Govt, STBLCP, Global Fund Distribute Motorbikes, Project Vehicles to STBLS, ATBLS
In a bid to eradicate the spread of tuberculosis and Leprosy in Osun State, the State Government in collaboration with the National Tuberculosis, Leprosy and Buruli Ulcer Control Programme (NTBLCP), through the support of Global Fund, has distributed no fewer than 60 motor bikes to the State Tuberculosis and Leprosy Supervisors and their Assistants to aid them in gaining easy access to tuberculosis and leprosy patients in remote areas across the state.
In his remarks at the event held at the Government House, Oke-fia, Osogbo, the State Capital, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Teslim Igbalaye lauded the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme and the Global Fund for their generosity kind gestures in providing the motor bikes to the State. He emphasized that the items are not just means of transportation, but vital tools that will enhance the mobility and operational efficiency of the delegated teams.
While he maintained that the state's commitment to eradicating tuberculosis and leprosy is unwavering, he stressed that the initiative will help greatly in nipping the deadly diseases in the bud across the affected rural communities.
Alhaji Igbalaye, who spoke through the Commissioner for Health, Barr. Jola Akintola, explained further that the project vehicles will support the operational needs of both the STBLCP and SASCP, and enhance the programme's overall effectiveness.
He used the occasion to list some of the achievements of the present administration under the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke in the health sector to include; prompt payment of salaries and allowances of health workers, comprehensive renovation and upgrading of 332 Primary Health Care facilities across the state, as well as upgrading of the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Asubiaro, Osogbo to College of Nursing Sciences among others.
The State government's Scribe therefore charged the supervisors and their assistants to intensify their commitment towards a healthier Osun that will be free from the scourge of tuberculosis and leprosy in no distant future.
The duo of the team leader, IHVN, Dr. Chris Ayomi; National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme, Dr. Folasade Idowu, in their separate goodwill messages, appreciated Governor Adeleke for his efforts in providing an enabling environment for the success of the programme, while they also commended the Global Fund for providing the Motor bikes for the State.
Earlier in his address of welcome, the Permanent Secretary, Osun Ministry of Health, Dr. Isiaka Adekunle noted that the programme has been of tremendous help in setting the people of the state free from the diseases.. The PS, who enjoined the partners not to relent in supporting the state, therefore urged the officers to make judicious use of the distributed items.
