Osun RUWESA, SEHIO Raise Hygiene Awareness in School for Global Hand washing Day

In a bid to mark World Handwashing Day, the Osun State Rural Water and Environmental Sanitation Agency (RUWESA) partnered with the Sustainable Environment and Health Initiative Osogbo (SEHIO) to promote proper handwashing practices across schools. The initiative focused on educating students about the importance of hand hygiene in preventing infections.

This initiative aims to promote proper hand washing techniques as a preventive measure against infections and diseases, particularly targeting school children.
Hon. Odelade Olanrewaju, Special Adviser to the Governor on RUWESA, emphasized the government’s commitment to promoting hygiene noting that hand washing is a cost-effective, life-saving measure, urging the public to incorporate it into daily routines.
Mrs. Ibidun Odelola, General Manager RUWESA, underscored the importance of proper hand-washing, particularly with soap and water, explaining that hand wetting is not enough, stressing the need for thorough cleaning at critical times, such as before meals and after using the toilet
Speaking on behalf of SEHIO, the Program Officer, Mr Segun Moyinoluwa highlighted the importance of targeting school Children . explaining that student serves as agents of change by bringing the message of hand-washing home, thus influencing their families and communities.
As part of the activities to mark Global Hand washing Day, government officials and representatives from SEHIO visited various schools, including Beloved Life Walk, Owode Ede, Ibiyemi Kids Primary School, Ido-Osun, and Flourishing School, Osogbo, as well as Owode Market.
During the visits, they demonstrated effective hand washing techniques and highlighted its crucial role in preventing diseases such as diarrhea and respiratory infections.
