Osun Govt., NTBLCP, Global Fund Distributes Motorbikes and Project Vehicles to STBLS, ATBLS
In a bid to eradicate the spread of tuberculosis and Leprosy in Osun State, the State Government in collaboration with the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme (NTBLCP), through the support of Global Fund has distributed no fewer than 60 motor bikes for the State Tuberculosis and Leprosy Supervisors and their Assistants to aid them in easy access to remote areas across the state.
This was done in order for them to reach where vehicles could not reach easily due to bad road network so as to enable them reach the tuberculosis and Leprosy patients in the local areas.
In his remarks at the event held at Government House, Oke-fia, Osogbo, the State Capital, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Teslim Igbalaye lauded the generousity of the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme (NTBLCP) and the Global Fund for the kind gesture in providing the motor bikes to the State, emphasising that the items are not just means of transportation, but a vital tools that will enhance the mobility and operational efficiency of the dedicated teams.
He added that the State's commitment to eradicating tuberculosis and leprosy is unwavering, saying that the diseases have long been a scourge on the communities which according to him with the initiatives like this will eliminate the deadly disease.
Alhaji Igbalaye who spoke through the Commissioner for health, Barr. Jola Akintola explained further that the project vehicles will support the operational needs of both the STBLCP and SASCP, enhancing the overall programme effectiveness.
He used the occasion to list some of the achievements of the present administration under the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke in the health sector which included; payment of salaries and allowances of health workers, comprehensive renovation and upgrading of 332 Primary Health Care facilities across the state, upgrading of School of Nursing and Midwifery, Osogbo to college of Nursing Sciences among others.
The State scribe therefore charged the Supervisors and their Assistants to reaffirm their commitment to a healthier, and as well continue working together towards a future free from tuberculosis and leprosy in Osun State.
In their separate goodwill messages, the duo of the team leader, IHVN, Dr. Chris Ayomi; National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme, Dr. Folasade Idowu, appreciated Governor Adeleke for his magnanimity in providing enabling environment for the programme. They also thanked the Global Fund for providing the Motor bikes for the State.
Earlier in his address of welcome, the Permanent Secretary, Osun Ministry of Health, Dr. Isiaka Adekunle noted that the programme has been helping people in the state in such a way that the deadly TB is being eradicated. He urged the officers to make judicious use of the items by making sure they are used for the sole purpose of what they were provided for, just as he enjoined the partners not to relent their efforts in supporting the State.
